Booky Wook

Liner notesI am not, and nor have I ever been, a fan of Russell Brand. When news of his conviction reached me, I felt a powerful attraction -- not to him, ugh Gods no; the draw of a quick-fire topical song, what Tom Paxton calls a short shelf-life song. I'm not quite happy with it -- a better song would focus on the victims rather than the criminal. But for a 'let's do something in the few hours before open mic', it's good enough. I say 'most of them' rather than 'all of them' only for legal reasons.

I was never sure what you were famous for
You always struck me as a jerk
Preening, proud and vain, you were meant to entertain,
Turns out you're a nasty piece of work

The accusations you denied, most of them were true
I hope they throw the booky-wook at you

A stupid man's idea of how clever should appear
You love to use enormous words to bore us
But those words don't mean what you think they mean
Perhaps you'll spend some time with a thesaurus

The accusations you denied, most of them were true
I hope they throw the booky-wook at you

The sexual assaults were somehow not your fault
You say they misremembered being raped
Events had been reframed -- at least that's what you claimed
And now you're off from whence you can't escape

The accusations you denied, most of them were true
I hope they throw the booky-wook at you
The accusations you denied, most of them were true
I hope they throw the booky-wook at you
